The BFNL netball finals get under way this weekend at Portarlington Recreation Reserve.

In the first qualifying final on Saturday, August 24, Geelong Amateur face off against Ocean Grove, with the winners facing table toppers Torquay in the first semi-final.

It was a fantastic game the last time the two sides met, with the Grubbers stealing one point win over the Ammos.

That match took place on July 11, and since Geelong Amateur have not lost a game. They finished just two points behind first-placed Torquay and eight in front of Ocean Grove, so they will prove difficult opposition.

Whoever loses that match will face-off against the winner of the other qualifying final, in the second semi-final.

The second qualifying final on Sunday August 25 sees fourth-placed Modewarre play fifth-placed Barwon Heads.

It has been a great year for Barwon Heads netball, with all 13 of their sides reaching the finals. The club’s netball president Kylie Rawson said she was elated at the club’s performance.

“We couldn’t be prouder of how all of the girls have kept working hard every week.”

Modewarre have won the two previous meetings between the sides quite convincingly – defeating Barwon heads 57-29 in April, and then 42-29 in June.

The B Grade top five features the same five teams as in the A Grade, only in a different order.

Here, second placed Torquay and third placed Barwon Heads will face each other before the A Grade finals on Saturday. The winner will play Geelong Amateur in the first semi-final the following week.

The other qualifying final involves Modewarre and Ocean Grove, who finished the home and away season on equal points.

The top five of the C Grade ladder is similar once more, except that Drysdale finished third and Modewarre missed out on the finals.

Drysdale will play Geelong Amateur in the first qualifying final, with Torquay and Barrwon Heads playing in the second one.

D Grade then sees the five same finalists as in A and B Grade. Torquay will play Geelong Amateur in the first final. Barwon Heads and Modewarre will then play in the second qualifying final.

The first E Grade qualifying final features Ocean Grove and Geelong Amateur, with the second featuring Queenscliff and Torquay.

All the qualifying finals will be played at Portarlington Recreation Reserve over the weekend
